Violin Generator at the Substation

Installations of The Rosenberg Museum have been featured all over Europe in its 30 year life. Since 2016, it's finally home in Australia and VIOLIN GENERATOR will be its only manifestation in Melbourne. The museum is the creation of violinist, composer, artist, inventor, writer, Jon Rose and houses a cornucopia of violin iconography - a cabinet of curiosities highlighting violin stories that are musically other, historically twisted, or culturally critical. The museum has two modes. The exhibition mode features violin installations, framed images, objects, oddities, home-mades, including new automatons by Jon Rose, Robbie Avenaim, Ernie Althof, Rainer Linz, Maria Moles, Michael McNab, Brigid Burke.; The live mode features performances and concerts including ‘Music in a time of dysfunction 3’ for the newly built ’32 String Web’ and violin ensemble of Erkki Veltheim, Lizzy Welsh, Rachael Kim, Judith Hamann, Biddy Connor, and Chloë Smith. Former European director of the museum, Dr. Jozef Cseres, will MC each performance night featuring no less than seven sonic events throughout The Substation.

Opening Exhibition night Thursday 4th April. The museum is in full performance mode 5,6,12,13th April The museum is open in exhibition mode 5-13 April “Australian violinist Jon Rose has done more than any musician to revolutionise the approach to his instrument, with technical developments and radical performance strategies.” – Andy Gill, The Independent, 5 January 2013 “Jon Rose is the major philosopher and cosmologist in a violin-centric world. Through his work he has fashioned totally new ways for violinists to think of their bows and their instruments. He has given listeners freshly made dimensions to contemplate. When I think of Jon, I'm reminded of Leonardo. He has fearlessly and fancifully explored all the currently known parameters of the violin and discovered many previously hidden ones as well. Jon has led the way in using the violin as a tool to explore life. If all he had ever done was to give us the sounds and the image of the violinist bowing barbed wire fences throughout the world, it should be said that his work has placed the violin front and centre as a force for renewal and regeneration in a tired world.” David Harrington, Kronos Quartet, San Francisco, 8 March 2012

HARAAM IS DEAD

HARAAM IS DEAD

after five years, thirty two solo releases, four splits, three collaborations, and numerous compilation appearances, agitpropiconoclastic noise master HARAAM is saying goodbye.

and what better way to say farewell to this powerhouse of genre-pushing noise than with a double album of final tracks?

سلام

this final release covers all the ground one would hope for: immersive onslaughts of wavenoise, machinegun pepperings of broken glitch, distressing mudslides of blackened ambient, and everything in between.

with this final release, HARAAM is giving away everything that was left over.

goodbye HARAAM.

(although it is rumoured that one more HARAAM track may appear on a forthcoming DOG PARK RECORDS compilation, and that there are still two remaining HARAAM/DFFDL collaboration albums yet to surface... watch this space.)

Nothinge album launch - The Tote - 20 Mar 2019

In the Tote Bandroom, Nothinge will be independantly releasing its fourth studio album called 'The Passage of the Obscurantist', it is a work which merges popular contemporary styles (psychedelic pop, g-funk, experimental pop) with the chaotic and open nature of made-up language and poetry, to obscure the meaning and structure to them. The hidden symbolism of words/lyrics can be splayed out and recollected, reinterpreted in various forms that may never appear to be transparent in nature. In a way, the work signifies the intangible and disembodied presence of creative thoughts and feelings, worming their way into the nameless territories, signifying sometimes abstract works and other times coherent but primarily ambiguous within a 21st century popular music canon. The album will be released on a limited run of repurposed VHS cassettes, ‘The Passage of The Obscurantist’ (Online sales of the album will be released the date after this event on bandcamp - 21st March 2019). A limited run of T-shirts will also be available on the night.

Sophie Rose and The Manual Breathing-
Musical humans and tinkerers; Sophie Rose & the Manual Breathing use whatever they can get their grubby paws on to make music. They bring the Māori myth of Rangi & Papa to life through sound. Expect rage, grief, pining, & gloves.

Clinton Green-
Clinton Green tries to coax something akin to music out things like turntables, non-musical objects, junk, text and projections. He is NOT a DJ. You will not be asked to put your hands in the air.

Cosmo V (NL)-
Coming from Rotterdam, Cosmo V emerges with a complete vision, with compositions that have a warm simplicity to the whole. Her sound is a unique take on psychedelic pop, combining distorted and textural drum samples and reverb with immersive deeply personal story-telling that gently touches the soul. Accompanied by Frank Van Vliet on guitar, and temporarily Max Posthoorn on Bass. They provide a strong foundation for Cosmo's ethereal vocals to float over the top which resembles something like snowflakes falling into a black hole.

David Prescott-Steed releases long-awaited synthwave album "Itch"

itch

one half of legendary free-sound ritualists GNAUMGN...
one half of radical synthbastards REALMS...
co-instigator of the ongoing POWERED BY STEAM events...
teacher, writer, field-recordist, PhD, and experimental veteran...

...David Prescott-Steed finally unleashes a full album of electronic, hypnotic, post-industrial dark-ambient-pop, "ITCH".

drawing from synthwave, electro-industrial, avant-pop, dark EBM, and minimalism, "ITCH" shows the more structured side of Prescott-Steed's wide palette.

pulsing pitch-black atmospheres relentlessly propelled on the lubricated wheels of chrome-smooth stainless-steel machines.
