Winter Railyard Event - video documentation

Winter Railyard Event took place at an undisclosed location in June this year, with Clinton Green, Radio Cegeste and Michael McNab.

Clinton Green & Ernie Althoff, Matthew Paine - new on Shame File Music

Clinton Green & Ernie Althoff 'Blindfold test' CD/digital:
"I think I know how these four machines sound", Clinton said of the images of Ernie's recently constructed kinetic sonic machines.
"Ok, then build four pairs for these, send me the images and the sound files, and I'll mix them down to four duet tracks", Ernie replied. These became Part 1 of 'Blindfold test'; the name stuck from the start.
Part 2 eventuated when the duo were asked to perform... at 'Autumnal sounds', a house event in Bayswater North. Three different and separate turntable pieces were devised by each player. These were performed back-to-back for added theatrical effect, with photos and videos only later revealing the processes. A mobile phone alarm ended each section.

Matthew Paine 'Tape: music from and inspired by a short film by Jordan Giusti' digital (free streaming/download)
“The full sonic landscape of this album was created by novel uses of electric guitar. These pieces where originally suites I presented for use in the short film tape, directed by Jordan Giusti. Excerpts from these suites, edited and synced by Giusti were used in the film.”
Matthew Paine is a Melbourne composer/artist/musician. He has composed for film, played in rock bands, and is currently developing music for chamber and large ensembles. Tape is his first solo release.

Augmented Trumpet - First Blood

Augmented Trumpet: First Blood - The Burrow

August 4th, 8pm
The Burrow (formerly aeso studio)
$20/$15

Presenting the first compositions for Elliott Hughes' Augmented Trumpet.

Six Melbourne composers have written new works for trumpet & electronics, designed to feature the homebuilt valve sensor that makes this instrument 'augmented'. The sensor allows the electronics to synchronise with the acoustic sound through the movement of the valves, opening up new possibilities for each composer to explore.

New works by Elliott Hughes, Bianca Gannon, Lewis Ingham, Louisa Trewartha, Allison Wright & Kitty Xiao.

Live visuals will also accompany the new pieces, creating a vivid multi-sensory experience.

NEW BUTTRESS O'KNEEL MASH-GLITCH COMPOP: R&D

the 25th album in B'O'K's decades-spanning series of pop-compost "compop" releases contains traces of: Ariana Grande, Bad Lip Reading, Guns n Roses, Eminem, Nine Inch Nails, Nicki Minaj, P!nk, Metallica, Grandmaster Flash, Camilla Cabello, Sia, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Tommy Ca$h, Pink Floyd, Melanie Martinez, Vanilla Ice, John Zorn, Bennink and Brotzmann, Madonna, Yes, Public Enemy, Darth Vader, pigs, etc...

GENERAL NICE THINGS PEOPLE HAVE SAID ABOUT BUTTRESS BEFORE:

“Words like "mashup" and "remix" don't really do justice to Buttress O'Kneel's method - Top 40 pop crap gets sliced, diced, and tossed into a dizzying, exciting hardcore electro stew. Compared to other djs who timidly drop a Vanilla Ice acapella over a Chemical Bros intro just to move a dance floor, O'Kneel shreds copyrights with a blood-curdling vehemence. Smash the state!”
- Music 4 Maniacs

"It's a trip down the radio frequency spectrum. Random, slippery and fun mix of a multitude of sources and elements."
- Triple J

"It's great! And it's all over the place. One track is a heavily cut-up political speech, another is a kind of glitch-pop. Sometimes we're in mashup territory and then all of a sudden it's a collage of startup sounds appropriated from the artist's personal computer. Hard to pin down, but most often compelling."
- Some Assembly Required

"media manipulator extraordinaire, Buttress O’Kneel surfs the flux between truth and information"
-The Night Air, ABC

enjoy.

ONE YEAR OF MUTILATED CORPSES

Once a month, the Little Songs of the Mutilated collective create Sonic Exquisite Corpses and release them on Bandcamp.  They are now twelve releases into this madness.  Time to celebrate!

"Exquisite corpse, also known as exquisite cadaver (from the original French term cadavre exquis), is a method by which a collection of words or images is collectively assembled. Each collaborator adds to a composition in sequence, either by following a rule (e.g. "The adjective noun adverb verb the adjective noun." as in "The green duck sweetly sang the dreadful dirge.") or by being allowed to see only the end of what the previous person contributed."
- Wikipedia

So far this project has involved Experimental Melbourne luminaries like Justin Ashworth, Nat Grant, A Demon Sheen, Uboa, Jen Tait, Ari Sharp, Matt Bush, Emily Bennett, Courtney Blackney, Maria Moles, Raceless, Karen Heath, Cat Tyson Hughes, Adam Hunt, Vijay Thillaimuthu, John-Joe Wilson... the list goes on.
Each player creates 40 seconds of music, then passes on the final 10 seconds to the next player, who uses that 10 seconds to spark off a new 40 seconds.  The finished Little Songs are pop-song length dream-ditties created by six different artists each, held together by nothing but the silver strings of astral intent.

LEON VAN DE GRAAFF:
Fugue in 240VAC for guitars and fluorescent lamps
I first discovered the creative audio possibilities of modified fluorescent lighting around 1989. Since then I have periodically pulled out these techniques for sculpture and installation works. This is the first time I will be using these techniques and ideas in a, primarily, sound - performative way. The performance will be improvisations based on formulas derived from recent experiments.
